Master of the Odin
18DWA181

A scientific breakthrough which could end starvation in the world belies sinister events when the experiment "goes wrong". Monsters now appear in the streets, coming up from the ground itself, and no one seems safe from becoming infected. The only clue the Doctor has is a young girl who is frightened by the voices coming from her mother's garden. Not everyone is telling the truth, and there is one who is manipulating everyone else.

SegalChord Productions is a group of professional, semi-professional, and amateur actors located in Fremont, CA, who have been making The Doctor Who Audio Dramas since 1982. These productions are downloaded for free over the internet. We average thousands of episodes downloaded each month. If you want to get your voice heard, this is the place to do it.

We are currently holding an open casting call for voice actors for our next production, Master of the Odin, a four episode audio drama.

Audition guidelines:

Thank you for your interest in The Doctor Who Audio Dramas. Auditioning is not hard. Even if you suffer from the worst stage fright, we'll help you get over it. Remember, part of our mission is to teach, to give people the opportunity to learn. We especially like people who are new or nearly new or who have been typecast. We will give new actors the chance to develop their skills as well as typecast actors the opportunity to break out of the mould.

We look forward to working with you!

The following are the open roles for Master of the Odin. Gender is indicated if a specific gender is required, otherwise the role is gender neutral and anyone can audition for that role. Numbers in parenthesis indicate the number of lines the character has. The right column are the lines to be read for the audition. Please read only your lines. Additional lines are provided for context.

In the case of child characters (both male as well as female), females should consider auditioning for these types of roles as well. Females have the ability to sound pre-pubesent no matter what their age, and many male child characters are voiced by females in animation.

Voice actors who have multiple voices in their repertoire are encouraged to give a sample of each in addition to their audition. We may offer you multiple roles if your voices are identifiably different from each other.

British Isle accent is preferred, though we will accept any accent. Roles which require a specific accent are noted.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate in the slightest to ask.  E-mail: dwad@onepost.net

Sometimes there are several unlisted roles which have only a couple of lines. For those chosen, we may assign you one of these small characters to play as well. Welcome to the world of voice acting!

Please audition for any role you would prefer. At times, we may offer you a role which you did not audition for if we feel your voice/style better suits that role. If you do not wish to be considered for roles you did not audition for, please make a note of that for us.

Character

Side

VICE CHANCELLOR VICTOR GRATT

Male, 50's.  Vice Chancellor of the University of the Highlands.  Educated and intelligent, but a glorified administrator.  Believes in the worthwhileness of the Odin project, but has a good sense of right and wrong.  (194)

(The DOCTOR and GRATT just witnessed a little girl turn into a monster.)

(DOCTOR turns on GRATT)

DOCTOR: That was contemptible!  Utterly contemptible!

GRATT: What?

DOCTOR: The way you frightened the poor thing!  Going on like she was some kind of scientific curiosity instead of a terrified little girl!

GRATT: I'm sorry, but you can't deny what we saw is something beyond human experience.

DOCTOR: Anything you say before the word "but" is meaningless.  (Turns) We have to find her.

GRATT: How?  You said those things could be anywhere.

DOCTOR: Let us understand each other, Chancellor!  I will not have you referring to her in that manner...ever!  You will use her name.  Karly.  Now say it!

GRATT: (Appropriately) I'm sorry...and no "buts".  Karly.  How are we going to find Karly when she appears to have the ability to travel anywhere there's earth?

PATRICIA JACOBS

Female, 30's.  Ex-wife of Robert Jacobs and mother of Karly Jacobs.  Artist (Painter).  Had a bitter divorce from her ex-husband.  Shares custody of Karly.  Ambivalent toward children, but considers hers a right nuisance, getting in the way of her art.  Only acquiesced to having a child because her (then) husband promised to support her career.  (117)

EXT. CITY PARK - MORNING

(PATRICIA JACOBS is impatiently waiting for her ex-husband, ROBERT, to arrive with their daughter KARLY.  We hear the pleasant sounds of birds chirping as a direct contrast to the storm of bitter parents about to arrive.  There are no other children in the park.)

(PATRICIA is walking up to their agreed-upon meeting spot. )

PATRICIA: (Looking around) Where are you?  Late as always. (Checks her watch) Come on, I don't have all day.

(Car arrives.)

PATRICIA: About time.

(ROBERT and KARLY exit the car.  ROBERT is not looking healthy.)

ROBERT: (Surprised that Patricia is on time) You're here!

PATRICIA: You're late.

ROBERT: That's because you're usually late.

PATRICIA: Been drinking all night again?

ROBERT: Don't start in on me.  And just so you know, I haven't touched the stuff since we split. (Beat.  Pointedly) Kind of tells you something, doesn't it?

PATRICIA: Well, you look horrible.

DR. BASTON

Female, 50's.  Biologist who has dedicated her life to finding a new plant based food source for humanity.  Her project has not gone well, but a recent breakthrough has made her dreams come true, though she has had little success in finding an investor for it.

Over the course of time, she has become more jaded about humanity and its drain on the eco-system.  This new project she has, the Odin Project, has a side-effect that is unknown to her peers, but one she welcomes.  (92)

INT. MEETING ROOM - MORNING

(BASTON is on the phone with one of the secretaries trying to find out exactly how many of the staff are out sick today.)

BASTON: (To phone) I see.  Let me know if anyone else calls in sick today.  Oh, and can you find out how many of the student body is absent as well?  No, don't wait for the attendance records.  I want to know immediately.  Go class to class and check. (Beat) I don't care how much work it takes!  Just get it done.

(Hangs up.  Beat, then picks up phone and dials his assistant.)

BASTON: Dr. Anthony, I need to see you.  We have a problem. (Listens) Oh, by the way, that police box you've been asking after isn't there anymore. (Listens) I don't know.  It wasn't there when I came in this morning. (Listens as Anthony yells) How am I supposed to know where it went?!  And don't you take that tone of voice with me!  You asked about it, I'm telling you!  Now bring those blueprints to me and stop wasting my time.

ROBERT JACOBS

Male, 30's.  Ex-husband of Patricia Jacobs and father of Karly Jacobs.  Contract law lawyer who works for University of the Highlands.  Had a bitter divorce from his ex-wife.  Shares custody of Karly.  Doesn't particularly like having children, but being a family man would advance his career, so he made the sacrifice. (85)

STACEY RUCKER

INT. CAR - LATER

(HARLOWE and RUCKER are driving to their next destination.)

HARLOWE:

You've been awfully quiet.

RUCKER: I was just thinking about Dr. Baston's project.

HARLOWE: A complete waste.

RUCKER: How can feeding the hungry be a waste.

HARLOWE: I meant our time.  Baston needs altruists, not businessmen.

RUCKER: They don't have to be mutually exclusive.

HARLOWE: I didn't say they had to be.  When did I suddenly become the bad guy?  You tried the stuff yourself.  It has no market potential.

JACK HARLOW

Male, 40's to 50's.  Investor partner with Stacy Rucker.  Business-like who has had a lot of pitches made to him and so disbelieves most everything. (31)

HARLOWE: You have something to show us, and you want us to fund its commercial development and distribution. (Sits down) So, let's see what you have.

BASTON: Yes yes.  I know your time is very valuable and we greatly appreciate it.

HARLOWE: Dr. Baston, I am sitting on my butt, so it will be very difficult for you to kiss it.  Just show us what you have and let us get on with our day.

NICOLE MORELL

Female, 40's.  Agent to Patricia Jacobs.  Knows the ins and outs of the industry. Busy and businesslike.  Like most agents, will suck up to those who can make them money and doesn't have time for those who won't. (26)

INT. ART GALLERY - EVENING

(PATRICIA JACOBS is arriving at the opening of an art exhibit.  There are people milling about.  Her agent,  NICOLE MORELL, approaches her.)

MORELL: Patty!  You're here! (Gestures to crowd) So what do you think?

PATRICIA: Impressive.  How did you get so many people to come?  The public doesn't really appreciate art anymore these days.

MORELL: Oh, it's more who you know.  And I can do the same for you.

PATRICIA: Can you?

MORELL: Of course!  I admit I was a little worried when you called and said you got stuck with the kid tonight.  Thought you wouldn't make it.

ATTENDANT: Are you all right, sir?

ROBERT: What?

ATTENDANT: You don't look too good.

GUARD
